From the Daily News: Three Democratic anti-gay NY State Senators, Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr., Sen. Carl Kruger and Senator-elect Pedro Espada Jr., have called for a statewide gay marriage referendum in an attempt to flex their political muscle and stop any discussion of NY State passing gay marriage through the democratically-elected legislature. Except . . . New York State doesn't allow for binding legistlation by direct referenda like some states do.
They've displayed their ignorance of New York State law. And they are supposedly . . . lawmakers.
As one commenter summed up: "Political pandering and posturing by a few ignorant jackasses."
But never underestimate the power of hate to finagles short-term victory through fear and mis-information.
About gay marriage's prospects in the NY State Senate, Sen. Tom Duane's sanguine.

Perhaps we need to indicate to these renegade Democrats that hundreds of volunteers will oppose their re-election in the next primary and general elections unless they support the Democratic Party in organizing and leading the Senate ... without preconditions.
