[My recent e-mail to The White House's Office of Correspondence.]
Dear Mr. President,
I recently wrote to you expressing my frustration, even anger, at The White House's and Democratic leadership's failure to own the nomenclature, messaging, and narrative of the health insurance reform debate.
I write now to express my great pleasure with The White House's recent more aggressive, direct, and sustained political communication efforts.
Part of those efforts wisely has been to appeal to Americans who already have insurance, specifically by stressing to them that the health care reform legislation pending in Congress will stop a "business as usual" situation: a status quo of relentless rises in health care premiums and co-pays.
Please keep up the efforts. A similar effort will be required for Sen. Dodd's financial services and banking industries regulation. I am heartened to hear of the postponement of your trip abroad until June. A spring concentration on health care and financial reforms is apt; that time can also be used to craft for a 9-12 months-long communications strategy about the reforms as well.
